Game over. The central protagonist who wants to quit playing games and live a "real life" falls into the ultimate banal web of addiction and compulsion. Obsessed with tennis, he vows to win Wimbledon, but it's impossible for him to detach himself from the video game-like activities required of mastering his sport. His use of drugs and alcohol intensify his obsession and distract him from anything outside of his electronic world — while simultaneously tormented by visions in his head that shake him to the core. Ultimately, he is forced to withdraw from society after an unspeakable tragedy occurs in real life that could have been avoided if he had not been absorbed by such mindless pursuits. The movie is based on the life of American tennis player John McEnroe.The film was first released in Taiwan on September 17, 2006, although it had previously premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. Darren Lemke's original game design game titled "Pixel Tennis" was released for the PC (Windows) in 2010. The game is currently available for free download from Lemke's site, elmexgames.com. "Game over" has received mixed to positive critical reception; Metacritic reports an overall score of 70% based on 22 critic reviews.
